Humanities Core Reflection

As I come to the end of my Humanities Core experience, I can’t help but thank the course for teaching me so much about the world and expanding my horizons as a global citizen. Empire has been an extremely interesting and broad subject to think about and study. Every quarter I learned something new about history and always made me think a little different about the world.

My favorite unit of Humanities Core were the first few lectures that Professor Block taught. Learning about race craft, gender and sexuality back then and comparing it to what it is now helped me become more aware of why things in society are the way they are. The idea of race craft stuck with me the most because I think it’s something that our generation today needs to learn about. This unit was the best also because it uncovered many detailed stories that were extremely sad or surprising but they made me realize how far humanity has progressed.

Every single quarter of Humanities Core, I had a different a section leader. I truly liked all of them and enjoyed their classes. Having different section leaders and hearing their own unique inputs gave me very well rounded perspectives on the subjects we were learning and I really appreciate the environment they created for me to learn the way I did.

Humanities Core is a course that many people choose to not take because it’s supposed to pile on a big load of work but, out of all of the classes that I have taken this year, I have always done my best in this class because I genuinely enjoyed what I was learning.
